Search by collection

IATE entries can be grouped in collections if they relate to a specific subject area or joint project.

The search by collection ☍ enables you to navigate through the existing collections and retrieve all the entries linked to a specific collection.

The search by collection is composed of the following elements:

  • Search box
  • Expanded search button
  • Level selector
  • Language selector
  • Search settings
  • Results display

Read more on User groups and search access rights.

SEARCH BOX

The search box contains a search field, a backspace button and a search button.

  • Click in the search field to insert (type or paste) any part of a collection name (e.g. a keyword like ‘energy’, a year, an institution acronym).
Use short strings to search for collections as the matching option applied is ‘partial string’.
Read more about partial string matching option.
  • Click on the search button or press Enter on your keyboard to launch your search and retrieve a list of collections.
  • Click on the backspace button to delete the content already inserted in the search field.

The list of collections retrieved can be sorted by creation date, collection ID, collection name, or collection type, in ascending or descending order. The default sorting shows the most recent collection on top. To apply a different sorting, select the relevant options Sorting options.

Click on ‘Add to selection‘ to choose a particular collection to view. Click on ‘Show more’ to see additional details on the collection, including a permanent link that takes you directly to the full collection.

Note that confidential (*) collections are not visible to external users.
EXPANDED SEARCH

Click on the ‘Open expanded search‘ button to access more search filters:

  • ID of the collection (*)
  • Name of the collection
  • Description
  • Language of the collection
If the collection language is not necessarily relevant for you, keep the ‘not specified’ option.
If you are looking for a collection with no set language, select ‘No language’ in the ‘Language’ filter.
  • Institution which created the collection
  • Type (*)
  • Creation date range
  • Confidentiality (*)
If you receive a link to a confidential collection, make sure that you are logged in to IATE as an internal user before trying to view it, otherwise you will not be able to. A warning message has been put in place to remind users about this.

Read the user groups and search access rights section below to find out more information on the availability of filters depending on your user profile.

Level SELECTOR

A collection can be attached to the Language-Independent Level (LIL), Language Level (LL) and/or Term Level (TL).

The level selector allows you to narrow down your search and retrieve only entries where the selected collection is attached to the indicated level. By default, all levels are taken into account.

Read more about entry structure.

LANGUAGE SELECTOR

The language selector allows you to indicate in which language(s) you wish to display the entries belonging to the selected collection(s). By default, the results are shown in the source and target languages defined in your user preferences. If none is defined, the results are shown in the interface language. You are free to change the language selection at any point.

The selector includes all the EU languages (ISO codes), plus Latin (LA) and the conventional code MUL. Irrespective of the languages selected, LA and MUL are also included by default. Additionally, other language codes might be displayed if there is sharable terminology from EU bodies in certain policy fields.

Click on the icon ANY button to select all available languages.
To select a completely new language and remove all the previously selected languages in one go, double-click the new language.
