A set of experimental features for testing and evaluation purposes is available to internal users. These features are intended to facilitate the understanding of content not present in the languages covered by the user and to support terminology work in the area of data enrichment.

GENErATE TERM SUGGESTIONS
This feature is available in the full entry view:
- Right-click on the language code in the language bar
- Select ‘Experimental entry completion‘ (or select the same option in the Quick edit panel)
- A pop-up will open and run the request, which may take some time.
The suggested terms are: * retrieved from Wikipedia/Wiktionary when available; * suggested by Mistral AI and verified against EUR-Lex. Only the suggestions found in EUR-Lex are proposed to you (if both the source term in the anchor language and suggested target terms are found in the same EUR-Lex document). The link to the source is provided in both cases, and for EUR-Lex documents, you can expand and display the occurrences of the term, that can then be inserted as a context. |
- Select which proposed terms and contexts you wish to keep
- Click on ‘Add the selected terms to the entry‘ to open the form for creating the new language or adding a synonym.

It excels at various tasks, including code generation and knowledge-based reasoning. It officially supports English, French, German, Spanish and Italian, but its multilingual capabilities allow it to understand and generate content in other languages as well. |
USE SUPPORT FROM AI TO DRAFT DEFINITIONS
You can access this feature via the entry creation form or the full entry view, by opening the Definition field for editing and then clicking on the ‘Suggestions’ icon in the formatting bar. With this feature, you can:
- Click on ‘Define with AI‘ to obtain proposals based on AI suggestions
- Verify whether the AI-generated definition is found in existing published documents or websites
- Click on ‘Translate from anchor language‘ or ‘Translate from other languages‘ to automatically translate the definitions already existing in that entry
- Compile selected proposals in the ‘Draft’ box by clicking on ‘Add to draft’. You can then further edit these with AI support: by merging, simplifying and correcting them, adjusting the register, or setting the creativity level (labelled ‘temperature’).
You can access the standard prompt by clicking on ‘Edit prompt’ and modify it according to your needs. However, the limit for the prompt is 2 500 characters. |
RETRIEVE CONTEXTS FROM EUR-LEX
Available in the entry creation form or the full entry view, this feature helps you find contexts for a term by extracting its occurrences from EUR-Lex.
- Click on the ‘Show more’ icon to see the full Term level
- Right-click on the ‘Contexts’ label
- Select ‘EUR-Lex search‘ to run a retrieval of contexts for your term and language (or select the same option in the Quick edit panel)
The search is set to find exact matches and shows the first 10 EUR-Lex documents (sorted by EUR-Lex relevancy criteria) together with their CELEX number.
- Click on ‘View all occurrences’ to expand each of the documents and consult the proposed contexts
- Select the desired context(s) and click on ‘Add the selected material to the term’ at the bottom of the pop-up. The context and context reference fields will be populated with the selected content.
MACHINE TRANSLATE TEXT FIELDS AND MARKS
Internal users (*) can machine translate any text field in an entry, as well as the marks. The target language will be the active interface language.
Machine translation is provided by eTranslation, a tool developed by the European Commission. The default engine is the one for general text. You can change this in the ‘User preferences’ under ‘Experimental features’. |
From the full entry view, right-click on any text field and select ‘Translate’. The machine translation of the field will be displayed in a pop-up (this option is not available in protected entries not owned by your institution).
Marks can be translated in the Marks monitoring screen by clicking on the globe icon located at the bottom right of each mark.
For text fields in the language independent level and for marks, there is language detection running in the background. |
Additionally, editors can also machine translate the Definition, Language note and Term note fields by clicking on the ‘Suggestions’ icon in the formatting bar that appears when editing those fields.
GENERATE DOMAIN SUGGESTIONS
This feature is available in the full entry view:
- Right-click on the Domain label at LIL
- Select ‘Domain detection’ (or select the same option in the Quick edit panel).
This action sends a request to the Domain Classifier tool provided by the Joint Research Centre to generate EuroVoc classification suggestions based on the content of the entry.
You can select one or multiple proposals, or any of the higher-level domains these proposals are categorised under (e.g. if this feature suggests ‘product quality’ as a domain, you can choose to add the higher-level ’20 TRADE’, ‘2026 consumption’, ‘consumer’, or ‘consumer protection’ instead).
