IATE entries follow a concept-oriented approach according to the principles set out in the ISO standards related to terminology work and methods.
This means that IATE entries are divided into three levels:
1. Language-Independent Level (LIL):
It contains concept-related information (domain, origin, etc.) and metadata (administrative information), and it applies to all the data in the levels below it. In the full entry view, the LIL is collapsed by default, showing only the main information. Read more on the Language-Independent Level.
2. Language Level (LL):
It concerns the concept, but it is written in a particular language, and it applies to all the terms in that language. A definition of the concept as well as any related notes can be found here. Read more on the Language Level.
